German Showcase at Waves Vienna

From 5 to 7 September 2024, Waves Vienna will transform the Austrian capital into a music hotspot. As part of the German Showcase, twelve promising newcomer acts from Germany will perform at Waves Vienna.

The German Showcase is a co-operation between German Music Export of Initiative Musik and the regional pop music funding organisations Musicboard Berlin, popNRW (Landesmusikrat NRW), POP-BÜRO Region Stuttgart, RockCity Hamburg e.V., Verband für Popkultur in Bayern (VPBy) and KREATIVES SACHSEN. The aim of the cooperation is to strengthen the German music scene internationally and to support musicians in their export plans.

MUSICBOARD PRESENTS BAD HAMMER AND RASHA NAHAS

This year, Musicboard Berlin is presenting Bad Hammer and Rasha Nahas.

Bad Hammer are a dreamy alt pop duo who live and work in Berlin. Close-ups of nostalgia and sensation inspire Bad Hammer’s timeless and cinematic pop songs, which blend melancholic melodies, poignant guitar riffs, warm synth pads and subtly driving drum beats. The duo have been touring extensively throughout Europe for years, including a run of shows opening for Molly Nilsson and Black Marble, as well as playing festivals like Grey Scale Festival alongside Molchat Doma and Lebanon Hanover and Synästhesie Festival alongside La Femme. 2019 saw the release of their debut EP ›Extended Play‹ (Doom Chakra Tapes / ITIS!), »an ethereal, atmospheric, and lush collection of shadow pop epics« (The Sun Lounge). 2020 brought ›Mystified‹ (Doom Chakra Tapes / ITIS!), an exceptional single release in which the song’s music video served as an advertisement for an eponymous and limited run perfume. In addition, ›Mystified‹ featured remixes by contemporaries Chikiss, Sami Toroi and Giraffi Dog. In November 2022 BAD HAMMER released their debut album ›End of an Age‹ and in spring 2024 a new EP ›Bad Hammer‹. The duo has received support tour funding from Musicboard several times. Bad Hammer will be playing at Waves Vienna on Saturday, 7 September, at 22:30 p.m. at Rhiz.

As a genre-bending, storytelling artist, Rasha Nahas has created a unique musical universe cultivated in the underground, remaining true to it to this day. The Berlin-based Palestinian singer from Haifa, composer and instrumentalist has found a distinctive approach to songwriting and performance. Carried by candid lyrics with disarming vulnerability, Rasha tells personal stories with a sound that moves effortlessly from echoes of the singer-songwriter era of old school rock ‘n’ roll to the anarchic heyday of eighties electronic music. Rasha’s critically acclaimed debut album »Desert« describes her journey from Haifa to Berlin. On her sophomore album »Amrat« Rasha also sings in Arabic for the first time. In 2023, Rasha played at Musicboard’s Pop-Kultur festival. Rasha will be performing at Waves Vienna on Saturday, 7 September, at 19:30 p.m. at Loop.
